Module 09 Discussion Applying CP within the Justice System

An article written by Paul Duckett and Marugerite Schinkel (2008) issues a challenge to the field of Community Psychology to become significantly more involved in combating the inequities and racially based injustices that appear to be prevalent throughout the American legal system. These authors suggest that racial and cultural marginalization within the criminal justice system is fostering a sense that society is unjust, fracturing communities, and creating social divisions that undermine the central goals of Community Psychology (Duckett & Schinkel, 2008).What are your thoughts on this matter? Is it the justice system that is broken, or are the problems that lead to inequities and injustices located elsewhere? And how might the field of Community Psychology attempt to address this difficult problem?
